Your school and students need YOU!  We have a lot of different areas that need YOUR volunteer help in the PTA.  There are a lot of different jobs and ways you can help.  Below is a list of the different committees that need your help.  Please read through the descriptions and then click on the form to sign up where you feel you fit best.  If you aren't sure, please feel free to contact me (gboehmpta@gmail.com) or check on the box to Help in Any Way!  The Help in Any Way committee is a great place to begin where we contact you to help with many different opportunities like bringing in treats or working short time slots at different events.

Area Council -Represent SVE at Lee’s Summit Council of PTAs meetings held on the fourth Monday of each month at 6:30pm at the Stansberry Leadership Center.  The meetings generally last one hour. You can connect with other LS PTAs and get ideas and help.

Beautification - Coordinate campus beautification activities.

Box Tops - Promote Box Tops for Education fundraiser program.  Collect, count and mail box tops as well as maintain a record of funds received.

Bylaws - Ensure that the Bylaws reflect the current structure, standards of practice and operations of the PTA and are contemporary and relevant to members.

Carnival/Family Fun - Coordinate all activities associated with the school carnival.  Committee chair needed!  This is a big job, but it can be divided into smaller jobs assigned to several people.

Fundraising - Promote and organize all events associated with the primary fall and/or spring campaign(s) such as, order forms to students, fill orders, reconcile funds received and distribution of items sold.  Committee chair needed!  

Health & Safety - Work with the school nurse to find volunteers to help with the annual health fair.  Promote health/safety education and awareness among students and their families.

Hospitality - Recognize SVE staff during October, December holidays and implement ideas for Staff Appreciation Week in May.

Legislative - Keep PTA members, school staff and parents informed of any pending legislation that could affect our school district by attending a couple of meetings throughout the year.

Membership - Assist 2nd VP with creating a membership campaign for the school year; assist in the tracking of all PTA memberships and sell memberships at PTA sponsored events.

Reflections - Coordinate and promote this PTA sponsored art contest, find people to judge entries, send entries to the state contest, attend awards ceremony and purchase awards for winning entries.  All work is now done online.  SVE did not participate for several years now because we had no volunteers.  Committee chair needed!

Party Planning - Coordinate activities of room parents for the Fall and Valentine’s Day parties.   Coordinate MAP snacks during the month of April.

Skate Nights - Promote SVE’s skate nights at Landmark 2 Skate Center. 

Events - Movie Night - Promote and organize movie night (usually in February).

Events - Bingo for Books - Promote, organize, and purchase books for Bingo for Books Night (usually in November).

Events - Back to School Picnic - Promote and organize all events at the Back to School Picnic.  Committee chair needed!

Spirit Wear - Promote and organize the selling and distribution of school themed merchandise and clothing during the school year.

Welcoming - Receive from the school names and addresses of new families during the year.  Create a “Welcome to Sunset Valley” packet with information about SVE.  Most of this committee work can be done at home.  Committee chair needed!

Yearbook - Work with school photographers, take pictures, design yearbook and coordinate the sale and distribution of yearbooks.  Collect orders and track money received.

Holiday Store - Organize the store, order items, schedule volunteers to work the store.  This event would be held early December.

Help in Any Way committee - An e-mail list that you will receive an invitation to help with different events during the school year.  As an example, bringing in food for the staff on special occasions or volunteering for a short time at the PTA table during Bingo for Books or one of our other events.

Library Helper - Organize and shelve library books, straighten and "read" shelves, assist with special library projects, help with book fairs, author visits and inventory, and assist students in locating materials.  Please contact Darcy Lueck at (816)986-4247 and darcy.lueck@lsr7.net
